Tenley Albright

Tenley Albright is one of the most pioneering and inspirational figures in the history of American figure skating; the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport at the 1956 Cortina Winter Games; a triumph made all the more remarkable by the fact that she had overcome paralytic polio as a child to reach the pinnacle of her sport. After retiring from competitive skating she went on to earn her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and became a distinguished surgeon; one of the most accomplished and admired athletes ever to grace the ice.
